Obituary of Richard D. Gorsch

Richard D. Gorsch Vernon Center- Richard D. Gorsch, age 70, of College Hill Rd., passed away peacefully Friday evening, August 1, 2014 in the Oneida Healthcare ECF with his loving and caring family at his side. He was born on April 25, 1944 in Margaretville, New York a son of the late Ralph and Eleanor M. (George) Shaver and was a graduate of Andes Central School. Dick drove truck for many years with Dairylea and retired from the Oneida County DPW. On April 14, 1973 he was united in marriage with Barbara A. Gabriel in the Bloomville United Methodist Church, Bloomville, New York and the couple has shared a loving union of over forty-one years together. Dick was an avid hunter; he collected old milk bottles, had an admiration for covered bridges and John Deere tractors, he was a charter member of the Vernon Center Fire Department and the Delaware Ulster Chapter 2128 IOOB and enjoyed puttering in his garage. Surviving is his wife, Barbara of Vernon Center, four daughters, Cindy Wright of Munnsville, Charleen (Walter) Burnor of Rome, Dawn LaShure of Oneida and Robin Rouse of Canastota, eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, mother-in-law, Nellie Gabriel of Oneonta, the Ranney-Clark Family and Alicia DeKeyzer, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by sons, Nicholas and Wesley, brothers Bernard, James and Douglas, sister Marylyn Tompkins, parents Ralph and Eleanor Shaver, special friends, Gerry Langford and Doug Davis. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Malecki funeral Home Inc., 23 Front Street, Vernon. Graveside funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Skinner Cemetery, Rt. 26, Vernon Center, New York with longtime family friend Rev. Leon VanWie officiating.
