Obituary of John K. Collins

John K. Collins Vernon-John K. Collins, age 59, of State Rt. 26, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 21, 2016 while working on a local dairy farm doing a job he enjoyed. He was born on February 4, 1957 in Oneida, New York a son of the late Carl S. and Anna Mae (Hammond) Collins and attended V.V.S. Central School. After leaving school John went to work on the Collins Family Farm, then worked for his uncle on the Robert W. Collins Farm and was most recently employed as a farm hand with the Havener Farm of Vernon. He was often seen riding his bike to work and home and had a bike collection. He also enjoyed watching old western movies and spending time with his siblings and their families. He had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews and the cats on the farm. Surviving are his four siblings and their spouses, Leslie (Prudy) Collins of Oriskany Falls, Harley (Kim) Collins of Verona, Ethel (George) Cordell of Vernon and Portia (Christopher) Doane of Oneida, two sisters-in-law, Linda Collins of Vernon and Patsy Collins of Tenn., one brother-in-law, Tom Hall of Oneida, one uncle Joe Hammond of New Hartford, one aunt Matie Rowe of Rome, life time friend Ronald (Billie Jean) Judge of Vernon Center and many nieces and nephews and cousins. John was predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Rolland, Carl and Stanley and one sister, Iva Hall. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for John on Monday February 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Vernon United Methodist Church, 5230 W. Seneca Street, Vernon.
