Richard N. Schilling
Sherrill-Richard Nelson Schilling, age 55, a long time resident of Sherrill, New York passed away peacefully Friday morning, July 28, 2017 following a five year battle of cancer.
He was born on March 4, 1962 in Albany, N.Y. and was the son of Richard Carl and Joan Marie Schilling.
Richard was a Hull Technician in the United States Navy and a Welder for Newport News Ship Building and Dry Dock Services in Virginia before relocating to New York where he spent the remainder of his career as the Supervisor of Maintenance and Grounds at the Insight House in Utica.
Richard spent the last year of his life in the company of Judith Johnson where he found enjoyment and comfort in her presence while traveling to visit family, frequent Nicky Doodles trips and being involved in varies activities. Her love and support made him happy.
He was an active member in the Sherrill American Legion Post 230 for a number of years, enjoyed bowling, playing bocce, and being surrounded by family and friends. He found joy in spending time with his compound family.
Surviving are his daughter and granddaughter Annette and Charlee Schilling of Oneida Castle; daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law Andrew Murphy of Deansboro; daughter Mary Schilling and partner James Smith of Oneida Castle; partner Judith Johnson of Sherrill; mother Joan Schilling of Virginia; two sisters and brothers-in-law along with their families Susan Wolf and Larry Bisgaier of Virginia, Frances and Joseph Errico of Pennsylvania.
His family would like to thank the community and friends for their years of love and support.
Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday August 2, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 464 Sherrill Rd., Sherrill, NY. Family and friends are also invited to join in celebration at the Sherrill American Legion after the calling hours. Funeral service and burial will be private and at the families convince. In memory of Richard please consider donations to the American Legion Post 230 of Sherrill of Hospice and Palliative Care of New Hartford, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
