Ardella dispelled any stereotype of the small town girl. What a life she led. What pleasure she took in travel and theater and history. How she appreciated, really appreciated, all that life had to offer.
And what a friend she had in Winnie. I used to tell them both that they were like characters in a novel. Winnie, from Alabama and Ardella, from New York, with a friendship that we could all envy.. No Civil War there! Which in this day and age should make us all know that America really is an amazing place.
Maybe someday I'll write that novel. There will be a lot of laughter and love in it. I was lucky to know them.
