Obituary of Robert A. Bloom

Robert A. Bloom Sherrill-Robert A. Bloom, age 82, passed away late Saturday afternoon, December 20, 2014 in the Oneida Healthcare Center. He was born on June 20, 1932 a son of Richard A. and Gertrude V. (Duggan) Bloom. Bob was a 1950 graduate of Gilmour Academy of Gates Mills, Ohio and was a graduate of University of Notre Dame Class of 1954 where he received his Bachelors of Arts degree in economics. Bob served with the U.S. Army Finance Corps in Germany form 1954-1956. In 1958 Bob and Patricia Ann Farley were united in marriage and shared that union of over fifty five years together until her death on August 18, 2013. Bob's employment started in 1956 with Oneida Limited Silversmiths as a sales manager of their Special Sales Division until 1968. He also worked for Xerox Corporation as sales and management consultant in 1968. Bob then joined Merrill Lynch as a financial consultant in 1968 and was elected vice president in 1981. He also served as vice president of Merrill Lynch Metals, a Merrill Lynch subsidiary and commodity trading company. He retired in 1996. He was a former board member of the Sherrill-Kenwood Community Chest and a former trustee of the Oneida Community Mansion House. For many years he was active with the Syracuse United Way and was a former board member of the Crouse-Irving Hospital Foundation. Bob was a former member of the Onondaga Golf and Country Club. He also played in several pro/am Syracuse Seniors Pro Golf Tournaments. He was of the Roman Catholic Faith and a communicant of St. Helena's Church of Sherrill. Surviving are two sons Richard (Maureen) of Taunton, MA, and Joseph of Tyngsboro, MA, three daughters, Ann (Duane) Link of Portland, OR, Ellen (Doug) Breckenridge of Vernon Center, NY and Marnie (John) Martin of Oneida, NY, seventeen grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday December 29, 2014 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 464 Sherrill Rd., Sherrill. Mr. Bloom's mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday December 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Helena's Church, Primo Ave., Sherrill. Burial will be in St. Helena's Cemetery, Oneida.
