Obituary of Richard P. McLaughlin

Richard P. McLaughlin Sherrill-Richard P. McLaughlin passed away Friday evening June 27, 2014 in St. Luke's Healthcare Center with his loving family by his side. He was born in Sherrill on December 20th, 1929, the son of James and Margaret McLaughlin. Richard spent his entire life in Sherrill. He graduated from Sherrill High School in 1948, where he was very active in sports. On September 15, 1956 he married Patricia Corney in St. Helena's Church in Sherrill. Before retiring in 1992 he spent forty-three years working for Oneida Ltd., where he obtained the position of Quality Control Manager. He proudly served his country in the Army in Korea during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant in 1953. Richard was active in community activities, The Boy Scouts, Pop Warner Football and Little League Baseball. He was a member of Sherrill Post 230 American Legion for over sixty years. He also served as the Post adjutant for sixteen years. He was also a member of the Oneida Ltd. Retirement Club. Richard was a Communicant of St. Helena's Church in Sherrill where he also served as an usher for over forty-five years. Richard was an avid golfer and enjoyed camping with his wife and grand kids and traveling. He is survived by his wife Patricia, one sister, Jeanette Gostling of Waterville, one son, Timothy (Amy) McLaughlin of Oneida, two daughters: Paula Vullo of Vernon Center and Brenda (Randy) Watson of Vernon. Nine grandchildren: Jamie McLaughlin of Oswego, Patric McLaughlin of Oneida, Vincent Vullo and Alisha Vullo of Vernon, Christopher Watson, Steven Watson and Nicole Watson of Vernon, Jennifer (Cory) Hutt of Oneida and Matthew Watson of Virginia Beach, VA and three great-grandchildren: Lance, Logan and Luke Hutt of Oneida, also many nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his mother and father, two sisters; Kathleen (Bill) Henderson, Alice (George) Suits, three brothers William (Cecile) McLaughlin, Frederick (Beverly) McLaughlin and John (Jack) McLaughlin, and two nieces: Nancy Cummings and Kathy Suits and his beloved golden retriever "Shamusgold". Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 464 Sherrill Rd., Sherrill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Helena's, Primo Ave., Sherrill. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Helena's Cemetery, Middle Road, Oneida, New York. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Helena's Church, Sherrill or the Sherrill Post 230 American Legion of Sherrill.»(Do not delete this line. It does not print.
