Rosemary O. Porter
Oneida-Rosemary O. Porter, age 93, formerly of Middle Road and most recently of the Katherine Luther Home passed away early Wednesday morning January 28, 2015 at the nursing facility.
She was born on March 9, 1921 in Utica, New York a daughter of the late William and Agnes (Dowd) O'Dowd and was a graduate of Waterville Central School and Utica School of Commerce.
On July 21, 1945 Rosemary and Stanley H. Porter were united in marriage in St. Mary's Church of Clinton and shared those vows for over sixty-eight years together until Stanley's death on September 10, 2013.
Rosemary enjoyed a long and productive working career. Her employment started as a secretary with the Willowvale Bleachery, and later went on to work as a bookkeeper for Millers Dry Goods, Oneida, Joy's Dress Store, The National Bank of Vernon and the Oneida Concrete Company.
She was a faithful member of St. Helena's Church of Sherrill, the Catholic Daughters, the Home Bureau and Sherrill Garden Club. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and tending to her flower gardens, especially the roses.
Surviving are her two daughters and two sons-in-law, Sharon and James Wylie of Penfield and Kyle and Michael Comstedt of Louisville, Colorado, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, one brother William O'Dowd, two sisters, Patricia Ireland and Sheila Williams all of Waterville, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Rosemary was predeceased by her two sons, Sgt. William R. Porter in 1970, Scott Porter in 2011 and her husband Stanley in 2013.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Bryant Unit at the Katherine Luther Home for their kind and compassionate care given to Rosemary during her stay at the faculty.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday February 5, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 464 Sherrill Rd., Sherrill. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Helena's Church, Primo Ave., Sherrill. Spring burial will be in St. Helena's Cemetery, Oneida.
