Obituary of Florence I. Marsala
Please share a memory of Florence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Durhamville-Florence Marsala, beloved wife, sister, mother, and grandmother departed her loving family on February 14, 2021.
Flo was born in Rome, NY on June 23, 1947 to Emmett and Helen House.
Flo was mother to Helen, Glenn III, and Lynne. She raised her children with love and devotion in Oneida with her loving husband Glenn Marsala Jr.
As a nurse, Flo was known for her kindness, selflessness and generosity. She was tireless as a caregiver and advocate for her patients. She was a master craftsperson, knitting, crocheting, and sewing everything imaginable for her family, friends, and even people she randomly met. She made wedding gowns, sweaters, pajamas, quilts, afghans, and hundreds of masks, which she gave away free to anyone who needed them. Her final project was a pair of knit cotton socks for her grandson. All who knew her describe her as the most generous person they had ever known. She loved people, and would talk with anyone she met as if they were old friends. She said she never met a stranger, because she connected with all people. She loved to laugh, tell embarrassing stories about loved ones. She was mentally astute right to the end, though pain had become a constant companion. She died with her loving husband and son by her side, and passed peacefully. She said before she passed away that she was ready to go home.
She is survived by her husband, three children, Helen Kizer—with her husband David and their three children Lynne, Emily, and Megan; Glenn and his daughter Madeleine; and Lynne —with son Justin and daughter Kyra. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Her sisters Rachael Armstrong and Iola Yager, and brother Emmett House Jr., also survive her. Siblings who predecease Flo are Ralph, George, and Rosie.
In accordance to her wishes, Flo will be cremated. A ceremony to place her ashes at the graves of her parents will be held in the spring.
