Obituary of Stanley E. Bell

Stanley E. Bell was born on July 23, 1929 in Smith Falls, Ontario and died on May 7, 2021 in Schenectady, New York. The son of George and Ada (nee Errett) Bell, Stan graduated from Smith Falls High School and then attended Queens University in Kingston, Ontario where he received his B.A. in Psychology in 1954. He married Faye Elaine White (born Betty Ann McMillan) that year. Faye received her degree in nursing and was a RN. They moved to Toronto, Ontario where Stan received his M.A. in Psychology from the University of Toronto in 1955, while Faye was employed as a nurse in Toronto. They returned to Kingston, Ontario where Stan was employed as a psychologist at the Ontario Psychiatric Hospital and Faye was employed as a nurse. In 1956 their son George Kurtis was born. Faye and Stan both agreed that Stan should pursue his doctorate in psychology. The family moved to Syracuse, New York and Stan enrolled in the doctoral program at Syracuse University while Faye was employed as a nurse at a Syracuse hospital. Their schedules were arranged so that Faye or Stan would be at home with Kurt. While in Syracuse, Sandra was born. In 1959 Stan completed all his course work and the family moved to Potsdam, New York. Stan was employed as a clinical psychologist at St. Lawrence Mental Health Clinic and Faye worked in a physician's office. Kurt attended kindergarten and Sandy was in nursery school. Stan received his PhD from Syracuse University in 1960 and in 1962 he was offered a position of school psychologist in Oneida, New York. The family moved there that year. Their son Christian Andrew was born in 1964. Along with his duties as a school psychologist Stan was a consulting psychologist at two mental health clinics and three developmental agencies. Faye was a nurse at a hospital until she became a teacher at BOCES. Stan taught courses at Hamilton College, Utica College, and Syracuse University. He was a member of the Oneida's Club, a volunteer at the Oneida Hospital, and at the Madison County Office for the Aging. He is predeceased by his wife Faye Elaine (nee Betty Ann McMillan) in 2010 and his brothers Donald and Robert Bell. He was also predeceased by a brother-in-law Richard Barry Davison and brother-in-law Nick Davison. He is survived by his son Kurt Bell (wife Maggie and their children Brendan and Kevin); his daughter Sandy Kaddo (husband Tony and their children John and Christopher); and by his son Chad Bell (wife Sheryl). He is also survived by his sister Mary McClennon and her children Scott (wife MaryAnn and daughter Morgan (Matt) and son Aaron), Marie, Bill, and Matt (wife Nadia and daughter Ella). Survived by his nephew Stephen (wife April and daughter Carrissa(Seth and son Rownin) and son Jordan, by his niece Meagan , nephew Tim (wife Sandra) and nephew Randy (wife Janet and sons Jamie and Graeme). Survived by sister-in-laws Ruth Clough, Margaret Crossett (Paul), and Melba Davison. His heroes were his brother Bob who accepted everyone unconditionally, was compassionate, and caring. Neil Armstrong, the astronaut who was the first man on the moon for his intelligence, bold and adventuresome nature, and John Muir for his enthusiasm for nature and promoting national parks. His heroes also included Barack and Michelle Obama for their love of family, of country, and their compassion for veterans and the needy as well as for their support of the arts. They are true citizens of the United States. Funeral arrangements will be through the Malecki Funeral Home in Sherrill, New York at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 31. 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 304 Broad Street, Oneida, NY with Rev. Stuart Wattles officiating.
