Verona-Kenneth P. Finnerty, age 77, of Verona passed away peacefully Saturday October 16, 2021 in the Syracuse VA Medical Center.
He was born on May 6, 1944 in Rome, New York a son of the late John A. and Anna (Foley) Finnerty and was a graduate of the Altmar Parish Williamstown Schools and received his Associate's degree in accounting from Mohawk Valley Community College.
In 1961 Ken enlisted with the United State Navy and was honorably discharged in 1965.
On July 12, 1975 Ken and Linda L. Cobb were united in marriage in the Verona United Methodist Church and have shared that loving union of over forty-six years together.
Ken worked with the harness horses at an early age and after his marriage to Linda he worked first as a wire drawer and then as a cost accountant at Camden Wire for over thirty five years until 2001 when he became a dealer with the Turning Stone Casino Resort. After his retirement at the casino Ken spent his time training horses with the Okusko Stables at Vernon Downs where he cared for his family horse named Phoenix. He and his wife campaigned several horse throughout the years with a favorite being Mystic Splendor.
He was member of the Verona United Methodist Church where he helped with the Food Pantry, the United States Trotting Association, the Harness Horse Association of CNY, the American Legion Post 404 of Vernon, the Durhamville Veterans Club and the YMCA of Oneida. Ken was a gentleman's gentleman with a quiet sense about him and pleasant personality.
Surviving are his loving wife Linda Finnerty of Verona, his beloved children and their spouses, Sean (Melissa) Finnerty of Verona, Cynthia (Lance) Aldrich of Rome, Christy (Sovann) Sous of Sherrill, Todd (Jennifer) Finnerty of Worthington, OH, John (Christina) Finnerty of Buffalo, Dan Finnerty of Minneapolis and Michael (Sarah) Finnerty of Oneida, seven granddaughters and one grandson, one sister Melissa Frendak of Skaneateles, two brothers, Fr. Vincent Finnerty of Opelika, AL and Patrick Finnerty of Central Square and several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Ken's wishes there will be no services. Arrangements are with the Malecki Funeral Home of Vernon. Online condolences may be sent to maleckifuneralhome.com
