Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sherrill, N.Y. – David Morgan Ricketts, age 79, of Cherry Lane passed away, peacefully, in the comfort of his home early Wednesday morning on January 26, 2022. He was born on March 25, 1942 in Plainfield, N.J. He was the first-born son of the late Robert E. and Agnes (Jones) Ricketts. David was a graduate of Plain Edge High School and attained a master’s degree in Education at South Dakota Wesleyan University. Prior to his retirement, David was employed with the New York State Department of Education where he was a vocational rehabilitation counselor. Downhill skiing was his most beloved hobby along with computers and any kind of technology. After retirement, he operated his own tour business and often drove a charter bus for his clients. He was known to be the best driver to get in and out of New York City and was a pro at parking his huge charter bus into tight spaces. Only a few fender benders were caused in the process. Also in his retirement, he worked for Oneida High School driving a school bus. After a second retirement from Oneida High School, he went on to drive tractor trailers for Penske. Often called a motor head and truly loving his busses and trucks, he finally had to retire due to health reasons a few years ago. In his final years, he enjoyed spending time on his computer and often volunteered to help friends with their computers. On Nov. 20, 2002, David and Cindy Ricketts were united in marriage and have shared that sacred vow for nearly 20 years. Along with Cindy, David was survived by his younger sister, Jeannie Kraus of Virginia, his son Robert Ricketts (Ruth) of Wisconsin, and his daughter Michelle Smith (Virgil) of Montana. He also has four grandchildren, Heather Ann, Samuel Nathan, Dakota Jordon, Kenshin Harley, and six great grandchildren. David is also survived by two stepsons, Myron Thurston (Brandy) and Jacob Thurston (Brenna) and three step-grandchildren (Myron Benjamin, Madelynn Grace, and Gideon Michael). He is predeceased by his sister Maryann and brother Jon. David was also survived by his beloved cousins Chuck Ricketts and Gloria Kyser. David will be dearly missed by his family and friends. The family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support. A special thanks to his caregiver, Heather Rapasadi, who was there to make his final months as comfortable as possible. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice and Palliative Care of New Hartford, NY.
