Harold E. Thompson, age 91, a longtime Oneida & Sherrill resident, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2022, at his home where he was under hospice care. He was born on December 22, 1930, in Kirkville NY. The son of Amelia (Scott) & Don Reynolds & Harold Thompson, he grew up in Norwich NY & Cleveland OH, graduating from West Tech High School in 1949. He enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War, where he served as a Corporal, stationed in Germany. On July 28, 1956 he married the love of his life, Louise Hyde at the 7th Day Baptist Church in Verona, NY. Harold worked at the GLF/Agway Corporation store of Rome NY. Harold was promoted to manager at Oneida Agway in the early 60's and worked for Agway for 25+ years as a manager of the Clinton & Rome stores, becoming one of the most successful store managers in the company's history before he retired in 1986 to become the franchise owner of Thompson Agway in Oneida and in 1995, he opened Thompson Appliances. Harold also spent many hours as a gardener, bowler, golfer, and card player. He was an avid Cleveland sports fan and a family man. He was a member of the 7th Day Baptist Church, the Verona VFW and Oneida Owls Club, and a volunteer for OHC. Surviving are his loving wife Louise, 3 children, Tom (Christine) of Pelham, MA, Paul (Chrissandra) of Verona, & Becky (Bob) Williams of Oneida. He had 7 grandchildren, Matthew Winchell, Peter (Elizabeth) Thompson, Andrew O'Connor-Watts, Stephanie Thompson, Austin Williams, Zachary Thompson, & Andrew Williams, one great grandchild, Reece Thompson, one sister, Pearl Mundy, one brother, James Thompson and several nieces & nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sister Betty James and brothers Hank and Robert Thompson. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Verona Seventh Day Baptist Church of Verona NY or to Hospice in Harold's name are appreciated. A special thank you to Stacia, Brenda, and Tracy for the incredible and compassionate care they provided Harold. Calling hours will be held at Malecki Funeral Home in Sherrill NY on Sunday, July 10th from 3 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Verona Seventh Day Baptist Church, 6773 Blackman Corners Rd., Verona NY on Monday, July 11th at 2 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.maleckifuneralhome.com
