Please share a memory of Nathan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Nathan R. "Nate" Vanderlan Vernon- Nate Vanderlan, age 51, of Peterboro Road passed away peacefully Monday afternoon July 7, 2014 after a 982 day battle with brain cancer. Nate left this world with his loving family and friends at his side in his home, the farm of his dreams. He was born May 18, 1963 in Oneida, New York. He was the youngest child of the late Harold and Ruth (Thurston) Vanderlan. He was a graduate of V.V.S. Central School and Morrisville College. On November 9, 1991 Nate and Antoinette "Toni" M. Curro eloped in Sherrill, New York. Their marriage was blessed in St. Helena's Church in Sherrill, NY on November 11, 2011. Nate was a talented Senior Systems Specialist for Waters Corporation of Milford, Mass. Prior to being recruited by Waters, he was employed by Bristol Myers Squibb in Syracuse, NY. Nate had many interests and they centered on his family and his love of nature. He always enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was walking in the woods at his farm in Verona, or just sitting on the porch watching the deer and listening to the birds at his farm in Vernon. Nate spent years as a proud "groom" and supporter for Liz or anyone else that needed a hand at one of the hundreds of horse shows he attended. Nate loved the horses that brought them together, and any element of farming. He looked forward to haying each year; his favorite season. He enjoyed fly fishing with friends, snowboarding, biking and training his dogs. Nate found happiness and peace in music throughout his life. He often reminisced about his mother singing hymns. His music collection ranged from rap to country, and he traveled many miles following the Grateful Dead. Surviving is his loving wife Toni Vanderlan of Vernon, one daughter Elizabeth Redding of Delray Beach, Florida, a brother John (Nancy) Vanderlan of Clinton, Tenn., two sisters Barbara (John) Destito of Verona, NY, and Tina Philpott of Endicott, NY. He also is survived by his in-laws; Sam and Pat Curro of Oneida, NY, sister-in-laws; Vicki Curro of Solana Beach, Cal., Cathy (Philip) Germano of Albany, NY, Patti Curro of Oneida, NY and brother-in-law Sam (Tammy) Curro of Gotha, Fla., and several nieces, nephews and many good friends. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday July 11, 2014 from 2 to 4 or 6 to 8, at the Malecki Funeral Home, Inc., 464 Sherrill Rd., Sherrill, NY. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday July 12, 2014 at 10:00 at Holy Family Church, Peterboro Street, Vernon. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery, Oneida, NY.
