Obituary of Joyce S. Burdick

Sherrill-Joyce S. Burdick, age 93, went to the home Jesus prepared for her early Sunday morning December 11, 2022 after being surrounded by the love of her family in the comfort of her home.

She was born on September 27, 1929 in Verona, New York a daughter of the late Floyd D. and Jenevieve (Williams) Sholtz. Joyce was a graduate of Oneida High School, earned a bachelor's degree from SUNY Geneseo, and received her master's degree in elementary education from Syracuse University.

Joyce taught elementary education in several schools before teaching for over thirteen years at Hoosick Falls Elementary School before retiring from teaching.

On August 3, 1969 she married Rev. C. Rex Burdick in Verona, NY and when they retired in 1985 the couple moved to Sherrill, NY. Rev. Rex and Joyce served Seventh Day Baptist Churches in Riverside, C A, and Berlin, NY.

She was very active member of the Verona Seventh Day Church and volunteered for the Care Net Pregnancy Center of Central New York for many years. Her loving husband and five children were the joy of her life and the nine grandchildren and ten greatgrandchildren just added to that joy.

Joyce is survived by, two sons and one daughter-in-law; Douglas Burdick of Winter Haven, Florida, and Norman (Vicki) Burdick of Riverside, C A, three daughters and one son -in -law; Carole Orr of Riverside, CA, Martha (Wesley) Greene of Hoosick Falls, NY, Pam Burdick of Hoosick Falls, NY, special family friend Ann Sweener, nine grandchildren, ten great- grandchildren, one brother, Louis Sholtz of Oneida and many nieces and nephews.

Joyce was predeceased by her parents, her husband Rev. C. Rex Burdick on February 29, 2016 and two siblings, Muriel Osborn and Robert Sholtz.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday December 16, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 464 Sherrill Rd., Sherrill, NY. Funeral Service will be in January at the Verona Seventh Day Baptist Church, 6775 Blackmans Corners Rd. Verona, NY 13478 at a time to be announced. Spring burial will be in Hillcrest Cemterey, County Rte 53, DeRuyter, NY.
