My mother and I both worked for Dr. Curtain when he was at VVS Central Schools. It was my first job in Education. He was kind, supportive, and sincere with this newbie. My mom said, “You can trust him. “ That meant a lot to Martha Nichols.
I’m retired 8 years now from teaching, but in my career I often heard about Pat Curtain working as an interim almost everywhere. Everyone had only good things to say about him. A tribute to his professionalism and Integrity! John Nichols

Growing up as a kid it was always an expected event to see Uncle Pat at the farm every Saturday no matter what. Looking back now I realize that probably wasn't always the easiest thing for him to do with all that he had going on in his busy life, but he made time to do it. I know now that he made time because he loved to see and help his brothers any way he could on the farm. I was always happy when he was there because my dad would always ease up on me a bit and take time to talk to his brother and usually put him to work on whatever project was going on. Uncle Pat was always willing to do jobs that most others would rather ignore. From trimming the shrubs at Grandma Curtin's (sometimes a little too short for her liking) to grabbing a broom to sweep, hopping on a lawnmower, or picking up construction junk, he always led by example and wanted to keep the farm looking good.
He was always quizzing me on history and school subjects when we would ride in farm equipment together, even when I wouldn't want to answer.
As I got older he was someone I could talk to about anything that I had going on with ease, and he would be interested in every detail and give good advice. We had a lot of great snacks, lunches, and dessert's together.
Over the last few years when he couldn't get around as good I always made sure to take the time to slow down with whatever I was doing and talk with him, probably a good lesson learned from watching him and his brothers when I was a kid.
Uncle Pat lived a great life and we will miss him every day.

I was privileged to work with Dr. Curtin in many school districts when I worked for Model Schools and the MO BOCES. He was an inspiration, a true gentleman and a straight shooter who told the truth. What a loss!

My wife and myself moved across the street from Steve + Shannon about 15 years ago and had the pleasure of sharing time with Dr. Curtin. The 1st time I met him I immediately could tell there was a strong presence this man projected. I wasn't afraid of him, but I wasn't going to break his b___s either. He earned my respect in a hurry. At subsequent "get togethers" I got to know him better and found him to be a very warm guy. It was obvious his children + grandchildren meant everything to him., I also discovered what a sense of humor he had. He always remembered my name and never corrected me when I addressed him as Mr. Kitchen. His professional resume and hard work ethic speaks for itself. Bottom line he lived his life to the fullest and had an tremendous positive influence on the great many people who knew him. (I don't think he would care for being called an "Influencer" however). All of you kids have done well for yourselves and I'm sure that's what he was most proud of in his life.

Dr. Curtin was a great man. When he walked the hallways of VVS he gave out as much respect as he was given by all students and faculty. He always took time to appreciate effort and acknowledge accomplishments. VVS was lucky to have him.
Thank you Dr. Curtin for being such a role model.

Dr. Curtin hired me 30 years ago, and he will always be one of my most favorite people in all the world. His kindness, compassion, but most of all his wisdom and willingness to share it in that gentle way he had will always be my fondest memory. The family that I’ve come to know over the years; children and grandchildren exude the same qualities. I can speak for my husband and children when I say, to know anyone from the Curtin family is to be truly blessed. Our deepest sympathies. Kevin, Melanie, and the boys (Miller)
