Obituary of Kathryn A. Sawner

Kathryn A. Sawner, Born May 23, 1942, passed away gracefully on August 17, 2023, at the Sisters Hospital in Buffalo NY. 
  Sawner spent much of her childhood growing up with her family in Vernon Center NY and was a 1960 graduate of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School. Pursuing her passion of education, she received her degree in physical therapy from the University of Buffalo in 1964. Post graduate work took her to Helen Hayes Hospital in Haverstraw and was recognized nationally as an expert in stroke rehabilitation. 
  Continuing her professional career, she returned to her alma mater in 1968 and enjoyed a successful 33-year career at the University of Buffalo. During her tenure she was a member of the inaugural EMBA Class in UB’s School of Management and held the title of Director of Communications Support Services upon retirement. 
  Sawner was predeceased by her parents, Gladys, and Clifford Sawner of Vernon Center, her two sisters, Mary Ann Medley of Batavia, Joyce L. Howard of Sherrill, and her nephew Douglas Medley of Watertown NY. 
  A long-time member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Amherst, NY, she is survived by her very dear friend Carolyn Thomas, six nieces and nephews and their children. 
  Friends and Family are welcome to pay their respects at a Mass of Christian Burial being held at 10:00a.m. August 31, 2023, at the Holy Family Church in Vernon, NY. Interment will be directly after in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Clinton, NY.
