Obituary of Millicent M. Houck

Millicent "Millie" Houck Verona-Millicent "Millie" Houck, age 84, passed away Friday evening July 11, 2014 in the comfort of her daughter's home on Merry Street in Verona with her loving family at her side. She was born on September 4, 1929 in Redfield, New York one of sixteen children of the late Wilbur and Effie (Kinney) Balcom and was educated in the Redfield and Sandy Creek Schools. On April 15, 1950 Millie and John F. Houck Sr. were united in marriage at St. John's Church of Utica and shared a loving union of over forty-seven years together until John's death on August 25, 1997. Millie and John Sr. together operated a family farm in Vernon Center until their retirement. Millie was a very active and devote member of Holy Family Church of Vernon and the Secular Franciscan Society of Holy Family Church, Vernon. Surviving are six sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. John Jr. and Marianne Houck of Cicero, Kenneth and Linda Houck of Sherrill, Thomas and Shelli Houck of Sherrill, Robert and Lori Houck of Brewerton, Norman and Terri Houck of Vernon Center and Stuart and Mary Ann Houck of Oneida, four daughters and sons-in-law, Marlene and James Simon of Trenton, Michigan, Carol and Kevin Beecher of Verona, Patricia and David Hamlin of Clark Mills and Mary and Charles Sherman of Schuylerville. Also surviving are thirty-two beloved grandchildren and twenty-four cherished great-grandchildren, one brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Betty Balcom of Camden, New York. Millie was predeceased by her parents and fourteen siblings. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front Street, Vernon. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Peterboro Street, Vernon, NY. Burial will follow in St. Helena's Cemetery, Oneida, New York.
