John T. Hastings

Vernon Center-John T. Hastings, age 80, of Bleeker Road passed away peacefully Thursday June 18, 2015 in the Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center with his loving family by his side.

He was born on January 31, 1935 in Theresa, New York a son of the late Charles T. and Isabel (Tilley) Hasting and was a graduate of New York Mills Class of 1953

On May 11, 1957 John and Ruth Learned were united in marriage at the Dewey Homestead in Malone, New York and the couple has shared a loving union of fifty-eight years together.

John served with the United States Army from 1957-1960.

He worked for Credle Equipment of Schuyler for eight years then went on to work for HP Hood in Oneida retiring in 2000. After retiring John worked summers for the DEC at campgrounds in the Adirondacks which he loved.

He was a member of the Vernon Center United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife Ruth Hastings of Vernon Center, four daughters and their husbands, Robin (Keith) Carter of Fl, Terri (Christopher) Salisbury of Rome, Jennifer (Robert) Hall of Chittenango and Kelly (Mark) Willbanks of CA, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, mother-in-law, Mary E. Learned of Malone, brother Peter (Peggy) Hastings of Fl., brothers-in-law, Richard and Gordon Learned of Malone, sister-in-law, Betty (Richard) LaPlante of Malone and several nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by his parents and a daughter Mary Burkman.

Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, June 27, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front Street, Vernon. John's funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home following calling hours with Rev. Melissa McCarthy officiating. Burial will follow in Skinner Cemetery, Vernon Center, New York.
