Obituary of Marjorie L. Bean

Please share a memory of Marjorie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Marjorie (Marnie) L. Bean (Smith), 59, of Oneida, NY passed away peacefully on March 9, 2024 in her home with her children by her side after courageously battling a lengthy illness. Marnie was born in Oneida, NY on November 1, 1964. Marnie was raised on her father's farm in Vernon Center, NY.

Marnie graduated from Stockbridge Valley Central School in 1982 and then went on to have a career in hairdressing. She operated and owned her own business, "Shear Pleasure" in Oneida, NY for many years, absolutely loving her work and many customers.

Marnie lovingly raised four children for whom she lived and devoted her life. After raising three great boys through all the ups and downs, Marnie was finally blessed with a beautiful daughter that only her dreams could have created. Not only did she love being a mother but she cherished her time as a doting grandmother as well.

Marnie did anything and everything to make sure her children and grandchildren felt loved every day, but the way she brought love and joy to the holidays was extraordinary and one of a kind. Even when her medical condition was at its worst, and things were at their most difficult, she never let it stop her from making her children and grandchildren feel over abundantly loved.

Marnie thoroughly enjoyed spending time playing slots and was a master at bingo, even after she lost her sight. She grew up camping at Raquette Lake in the Adirondacks, and in her adult years, enjoyed continuing the tradition with her children and grandchildren, sharing with them the same experiences she treasured growing up. Marnie loved being at home watching her game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right.

Marnie was predeceased by her beloved son Kyle Thurston and father Daryl V. Smith. She is survived by her children Travis Thurston (Nicole Byron) of Munnsville, NY; Troy Henry (Abby Wilson) of Vernon Center, NY; Lauren Bean of Oriskany Falls, NY; grandchildren Madison Thurston, Zekai and Ezryn Graves, Cate and Jack Byron, and Aria Bavo, brothers and sister Adam Smith, Kenneth Smith, Abigail Smith, David Smith, and her older brother Daryl Smith, with whom she had a special bond, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, March 14th from 4-6 at the Malecki Funeral Home, 23 Front Street, Vernon, NY with a memorial service to follow at the funeral home. A celebration of life will be held at the Munnsville American Legion at 6311 E Hill Rd, Munnsville, NY 13409 at 7 o'clock. Online condolences may be sent to maleckifuneralhome.com.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to her Care team, Erin Chesebro, Beatrice Fivecoat, Jenna Skellham, and Melissa King for their dedication, care, and kindness. One of Marnie's last requests was in place of flowers, to please contribute to your favorite charity but, most of all, to live your life fully and hug your family close.
