Obituary of Edgar A. Byrne

Edgar A. Byrne (Al) Durhamville, NY >> Edgar A. Byrne (Al), 92, passed away July 15, 2015 at his home in Durhamville, NY. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Monday July 20, 2015 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Durhamville, NY followed by a luncheon at the Durhamville Vets' Club at 12 noon. Calling hours will be on Sunday July 19, 2015 from 4pm to 7pm. at Malecki Funeral Home, Sherrill, NY. He was born on February 24, 1923 in Durhamville, NY, a son of Michael J. and Elizabeth Sullivan Byrne and earned a diploma from Oneida High School. Al served aboard the USS Trenton in the Pacific Theater during World War II. On September 1, 1945 Al was married to Olive J. Cmaylo at St. Francis Church in Durhamville by Father Reddy. Surviving him, besides his loving wife of 70 years are his four children: Kathleen (Dennis) Ford, of MD, David (Margaret), of HI, Michael (Ann), of Morrisville, NY and Kevin (Elizabeth), of Manlius, NY; 7 grandchildren (Jennifer, Nicole, Tracy, Heather, Becky, Emily, and Sarah); 6 great grandchildren (Che', Analuz, Henry, Timothy, Catherine and Emily) and his siblings: William (of NY), Eugene (of Florida) and Therese (of CA). Preceding him in death were his brothers, Bernard and Vincent and his sisters, Ann and Eileen. He was employed by Pettibone Corp. in Rome NY as a carpenter for 43 years. Al was active in Durhamville community affairs including the success of the new grade school in Durhamville and the formation of the Durhamville Veterans' Club. He was also an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and was also active in local Town of Verona politics. He participated in many beautification projects in the village.
