Doris M. Firsching Obituary

Doris M. Firsching, 83, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024 at the Masonic Care Community in Utica, NY. Doris Marie was born October 16,1940 in Herkimer NY, the daughter of the late Paul E. and Dorothy M. Peryea Thomasch. She graduated from Utica Free Academy of Utica, NY in 1958 followed by attending Utica University. Doris was twice married, first, to David J. Commins Sr., having two sons, David James Jr. and Douglas Edward. Secondly, she married Gerald N. Firsching having one son, Kory James.

Doris retired from the Lutheran Home in Clinton, NY after many years of providing exceptional care to her cherished residents. She was a great lover of the outdoors and was happiest and at home camping, fishing, hiking, canoeing, and kayaking the Adirondack mountains of upstate New York, principally Lake Placid. However, the greatest of Doris's loves was being "Nana" to her grandchildren. She loved spending time with them and teaching them her love of the water and the great outdoors passed down from her father. She loved them all, "a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck."

Doris Marie is survived by her three sons, David and Robin Commins, Douglas and Stephanie Commins, Kory Firsching and her beloved grandchildren, Mitchell J. Commins, Katelynn M. Commins, Kyle E. Firsching, Shannon J. Firsching.and Daniel Perry.

As per Doris's wishes, those wanting to make a donation in her memory may do so to Tri-Lake Humane Society of Saranac Lake, NY. This facility was where she adopted her sweet Abby, a chihuahua that added immeasurable love, companionship, and sass to her life.
