Obituary of Robert J. Lampman
Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert J. Lampman, age 97, a lifelong resident of Vernon, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2024.
Bob was born in Vernon, on the Lampman Dairy Farm, on August 13, 1927, the son of the late Peter and Mabel Allen Lampman. He is predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Lampman Champney, his first wife, Joan K. Lampman, second wife, Betty D. Lampman, and his son, David Robert Lampman.
Bob graduated Vernon High School in 1945 and worked on the family farm alongside his dad. He left the farm and worked for an excavating contractor and then went on to Seneca Plumbing for about 3 years learning the plumbing and heating trade. Bob established, and successfully managed, Skyline Plumbing & Heating for 37 years.
While living on Skyline Drive, he built, from plans, an air sled for use on snow, in the family garage. It had 3 skis with a cabin like a plane, and a 125 horse aircraft engine to push it over the snow. Lots of fun was had with that noise machine on cold winter days!
Bob was a graduate of The Dale Carnegie Course which aided him throughout his business career. He was also deeply involved with the Vernon Kiwanis Club and was awarded several honors at the end of his tenure.
In his later years, he started a new hobby of collecting pedal cars, at one time over 110 cars. After retiring in 1994, he enjoyed 10 years of traveling in his motor home to other parts of the country and spending winters in Florida.
In the past 15 years, he pursued a passion for building model airplanes many of which are displayed in his home. In his spare time, he started writing down all of his memories of childhood, growing up in Vernon, his family and children, grandchildren, great grandchildren. What started as a fun activity became a labor of love, and in 2022 he published his memories.
Surviving are his two daughters, Deborah L. (and John) Stier, and Lynn M. Hoolihan, and his daughter-in law, Claire F. Lampman. Also, grandchildren: Michael McCallum, Ryan McCallum, David Hoolihan, Jr., Casey Hoolihan, Holly Becerra, Cody Lampman, and Aaron Lampman and great grandchildren Hannah, Savannah, Mariela Becerra, and Brynn Hoolihan. Also surviving is his devoted, constant, and loving companion, Blanche Anna. They have been together for over 15 years.
Bob will be remembered for his warm heart, generous spirit, and ability to make friends wherever he went. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Many friendships were established over the years, shared lots of laughs and helped with his "memories project" by phone, or over a cup of coffee at Abe's Nothin' Fancy Cafe.
May GOD bless all those that helped shape Bob's life! If Bob were here he would want to say thank you to all who made his life so wonderful!
